One activity we introduced this year at The Old Downs Residential Care Home has quickly become a firm favourite on our Recreation calendar β sandwich making! This simple yet meaningful activity promotes independence and a sense of purpose for our residents.
Each person is encouraged to choose their own sandwich fillings, allowing them to express personal preferences and enjoy a familiar task that brings joy and comfort. Best of all, itβs an opportunity for residents to take pride in preparing tea for their friends β a gesture filled with care and connection.
This time, it was Sonia, Dorothy and Edith who took charge of teatime, and they ran the show like a well-oiled machine! One buttered the bread, another added the fillings, and the third carefully cut the sandwiches; the teamwork on display was impressive.
The result? Perfectly prepared sandwiches and a lovely tea enjoyed by all.
Well done ladies β you made teatime extra special once again!
