Last Friday, we enjoyed a fantastic live performance from the D-Day Dollies to mark Remembrance Day here at The Old Downs Residential Care Home. Our dining room was beautifully decorated with Union Jack flags, and our tables were set for a lovely afternoon tea. The D-Day Dollies brought the room to life with their medley of 1940s and 1950s tunes, and the moment they began to sing, everyone was captivated.
The music soon had our residents and families singing, dancing and smiling together, filling the room with warmth and joy. Between songs, the performers shared fascinating facts about the wartime music, which everyone found really interesting. The singers also encouraged audience participation, creating a truly engaging and uplifting atmosphere.
After the show, we all tucked into delicious slices of Victoria sponge, coffee cake, fudge cake and carrot cake, accompanied by plenty of tea. The D-Day Dollies spent time chatting with our residents afterwards, which was such a lovely gesture and rounded off a wonderful afternoon.
A heartfelt thank you to the amazing performers – it was a day to remember!
