Each year, Remembrance Day gives us time to pause and reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of those who served. Here at The Old Downs Residential Care Home, our residents have been taking gentle walks to the Hartley War Memorial throughout the week, honouring all those who were part of the great tragedy so many years ago.
The memorial, beautifully adorned with hundreds of handmade felt poppies, stands proudly in our close-knit community. Many of the poppies were lovingly crafted by local residents, each one representing remembrance and gratitude.
Our residents were deeply moved as they admired the sea of red and spent peaceful moments reflecting on the lives remembered there. We are so fortunate to live in such a thoughtful and caring community that comes together to honour this important day each year.
