The Old Downs Residential Care Home hosts VE Day party with live music

Last week at The Old Downs Residential Care Home, we truly had the best time celebrating the 80th VE Day, remembering the importance of the date with many activities – but if we had to pick a favourite, it would have to be our big party.

The amazing Ian Gallagher came in to perform for us, and our residents loved him. He had a brilliant mix of music for us, and in no time at all the dance floor was full! Ian makes all our residents feel special and valued by giving them time to sing along to the music at their own pace, and a solo on the microphone doesn’t go a miss either! What really made it special for us was the atmosphere; the room was full of singing, roaring laughter and most importantly, smiles.

It was important for us to not only celebrate and mark the 80th anniversary of the day, but to remember the people who laid down their lives to get us here; we did not forget.

We make beautiful memories and share special moments every day here at our Home, but this day will stay with us all forever and is a memory made to last a lifetime. We couldn’t have asked for a better turn out on the day. The sun was shining, the flags were flying high, and everyone had a smile on their face.

One of the sweetest moments was when our talented Ann was invited up by Ian to sing the last song together. Ann is a professional singer who has performed all her life. Music is the most important thing in her everyday life, so being able to get back up on stage with a microphone in front of an audience in awe, was very special. She sang ‘We’ll Meet Again‘ so stunningly. Her singing moved people to tears. It was a breathtaking moment for us to see her perform.

What a pleasure it was to celebrate such an important day with everyone. Thank you to all our brilliant families for always supporting us, our incredible team, and most importantly our fabulous residents. We had the best day!
