VE Day is a very special time of year for our residents here at The Old Downs Residential Care Home. It’s very important for them to be able to celebrate this special remembrance day, and this year, they made lovely flags and decorations to brighten up the Home.
We held a special garden party with entertainment from the very popular singer Kevin Walsh. As the Home has been ‘on lockdown’ like the rest of the country, it was so good for our ladies and gents to be able to have such a fun day and let off some steam.
This poignant day brings back such good memories for our lovely residents, many of whom lived through the war; they loved singing along to all the classic wartime songs – especially those by the late Dame Vera Lyn.
This year really touched one of our residents, Peter, who met his wife at Buckingham Palace on VE Day and it brought back very fond memories.
