The Old Downs Residential Care Home family welcomes a new member

Monday 18 August was a truly special day at The Old Downs Residential Care Home, as our family grew by one very precious member. After much anticipation, our residents were overjoyed to finally meet baby Ivy. Our Recreation and Well-being Coordinator, Amber, recently welcomed her beautiful baby girl, and our residents had been excitedly following her pregnancy journey, eager for the first introductions. When Amber brought Ivy in to visit, there was soon a happy queue forming to see who would enjoy the first cuddle.

In preparation for the visit, our residents had lovingly knitted a handmade blanket for Ivy. They were delighted to learn that this thoughtful gift will be kept in Ivy’s memory box as a special keepsake to treasure.

Meeting Ivy brought so much joy to our residents, sparking warm memories of raising their own children and grandchildren. Conversations flowed about baby cuddles, first milestones, and even sleepless nights—all fondly remembered.

At The Old Downs Residential Care Home, we truly are one big family. Welcoming Ivy felt just like gaining another daughter and granddaughter, and she already has plenty of extra nannies and grandads here who cannot wait to watch her grow.

Amber has created many wonderful memories with us at our Home, and now she is looking forward to making even more—this time with her little plus one by her side. We cannot wait to welcome them both back again very soon.
