Last Saturday here at The Old Downs Residential Care Home, we had a rather special visitor trot up to our door – Polly the pony! Our lovely resident Edith celebrated her 100th birthday with us last week and her birthday wish was a simple but heartfelt one – to see a horse.
Our Senior Carer Sarah kindly enlisted her daughters to make the wish came true in the most magical way. Her daughter Brooke, who is one of our wonderful Dining Room Assistants, and Brooke’s sister Cheyenne, arranged for their family pony Polly to visit Edith and our other residents.
As Polly trotted in, the joy on our residents’ faces was unmistakable. There were beaming smiles and plenty of gentle strokes and cuddles. Edith and her fellow residents were delighted to spend time with this gentle and friendly pony, who was more than happy to accept a few carrot treats along the way!
It was a heartwarming moment that meant the world to everyone. Huge thanks to Sarah, Brooke and Cheyenne for going the extra mile to create such a meaningful experience.
