Firework crafts
Our residents at The Old Downs Residential Care Home have been busy creating some beautiful firework-themed artwork over the past couple of weeks during our arts and crafts sessions.
In the first session, we made vibrant fireworks from colourful tissue paper, tearing strips to create different colour fireworks. The following week, our residents used metallic paints to design stunning exploding fireworks that shimmered beautifully when they caught the light. The finished pieces look amazing and are now proudly displayed on our wall for everyone to enjoy!
Bonfire Night
We often say we’ve had ‘the best day‘ here at The Old Downs — but this year’s Bonfire Night celebration truly took first place, when we threw a party for our residents! We transformed our dining room into a warm, autumn-inspired space, complete with cosy decorations and handmade table centrepieces featuring natural items our residents had foraged, such as leaves and pinecones. Their beautiful firework artwork from the week was also displayed, adding extra sparkle to the room.
Whilst we were waiting for it to go dark, our residents enjoyed hot chocolates with whipped cream and mini marshmallows – these went down a treat! Some residents enjoyed a boozy tipple too! Everyone enjoyed snacks whilst they were waiting and we all had a singalong.
When night finally fell, we headed outside for the fireworks. Our team began with a dazzling display for our residents to enjoy from the windows, before handing out long-handled sparklers so everyone could safely join in the fun. Our residents absolutely loved waving their sparklers and watching the golden trails light up the night sky – it really was magical.
To finish the evening, we all tucked into hot dogs in brioche buns with caramelised onions – the perfect end to an unforgettable night.
