We served up summer in style here at The Old Downs Residential Care Home as we kicked off Wimbledon week with a garden party – our first of the season, so it had to be one to remember!
The morning buzzed with excitement as we transformed our garden into a Wimbledon wonderland. Union Jacks were flying, plus green and purple bunting, and of course, no Old Downs Garden party would be complete without a balloon arch!
Right on cue at 2pm, the brilliant Kevin Walsh performed for an hour and our garden quickly filled with smiling faces – residents, families, and our amazing team were all ready for a dance! We brought out the Wimbledon classics too: a strawberries and cream station and refreshing Pimm’s, complete with mint freshly picked from our very own residents’ herb garden.
The atmosphere was electric – feet were tapping, hands were clapping, and soon everyone was up dancing and laughing. It was a day filled with sunshine, sweet treats, and special moments, celebrating the wonderful friendships between our team and residents.
And the fun wasn’t over! Nicoleta and Abigail took to the microphone for our raffle draw, after weeks of raising money for our residents’ fund. In third place, our Business Support Officer Sharon; in second our lovely Hazel; and taking the top prize, our Senior Carer Sarah. All of them won a surprise hamper.
It truly was a day to remember, full of community spirit.
