Last week, we proudly joined the Cake4Kindness campaign with our residents here at The Old Downs Residential Care Home. Cake4Kindness is a wonderful nonprofit initiative dedicated to spreading joy through baking and donating cakes to worthy causes. Our residents enthusiastically took part by baking and decorating delicious school cake cupcakes, putting plenty of love and effort into every one.
As our residents are huge animal lovers – and have enjoyed many Pet Therapy sessions with visiting animals this year – it felt fitting to support an animal-focused charity. We chose to donate to Animal Samaritans, a small compassionate organisation working across Kent and southeast London. The charity rescues and rehomes cats, supported by an incredible team of foster carers who provide safe spaces for animals to recover and rediscover kindness. Their work is sustained by donations and low-cost veterinary support through partner vets.
Two of Animal Samaritans’ long-term foster cats, Charlie and Bruce, are familiar faces at our Home, visiting regularly for cuddles and companionship. They always brighten our residents’ days and bring a sense of calm and connection. Their visits may be simple but the difference they make is huge.
The cupcakes our residents baked with such care were gifted to the charity’s foster carers and veterinary partners, as a small gesture of appreciation for the tireless work they do for animals in need. It was a pleasure to donate to this great cause and a reminder that kindness often starts with the simplest acts – and a slice of cake can go a long way!
