Our residents at The Old Downs Residential Care Home always look forward to our regular Q&A sessions – they are simple but so effective! We pick a question and ask everyone to answer – the beauty is, it gets every chatting and reminiscing! This week’s question was “When I was a child, I wanted to be a …” It instantly got us thinking back to our career histories and swapping stories. All the answers were brilliant but the stories that were shared were even greater!
Daphne told us she had once dreamed of becoming a Hairdresser. Although life took her in a different direction, she still adores having her hair styled and is well known in our Home for matching her nails to her colourful outfits.
Hazel revealed that she always loved swimming and was quite good at it too, but her path led her to a different passion, and she became a Chemistry Teacher.
Eric gave us all a chuckle when he said his dream was “any job that paid,” but he went on to serve an incredible 22 years in the British Army—a true achievement. Alfred shared that his greatest wish was to have a family of his own, and he told us proudly that his children and grandchildren are his world. How wonderful!
Even our Home Manager, Nicoleta, joined in, sharing that her childhood dream was to become a Nurse – a goal she proudly achieved before also taking on her role as our amazing Home Manager.
It was a heartwarming session, full of memories and shared experiences. These Q&A afternoons never fail to bring our residents closer together, and we can’t wait to see what stories the next one will uncover.
